Majestic 12: A fake organization or a cover up by the US Government?
Majestic-12 (also known as MJ-12 or MJ XII) is the codename of an alleged secret committee formed in the United States in 1947 to investigate UFO activityduring the presidency of Harry S. Truman.
Part of the UFO conspiracy theory in the U.S., the existence of MJ-12 has been repeatedly denied by the U.S. government. All documentation raised as proof of its existence has been labeled as a hoax and are simply forgeries. The authenticity regarding these documents has been much of everyones debate.
The knowledge of existence of MJ-12 was first debated in 1982. Jamie Shandera, a television producer and amateur ufologist, claimed to have received a roll of firm in the mail from an anonymous sender. Supposedly, it contained two documents Harry
Trumans authorization of the committee MJ-12 to investigate the Roswell UFO incident and another one was a brief to inform the next president Dwight Eisenhower on their progress.
Deceased before the documents first surfaced, the committee was apparently made up of a group of people with military and scientific achievements. They included Vannevar Bush, Robert Oppenheimer and Albert Einstein, and under alleged membership were James Forrestal, Edward Teller and General Nathan F. Twining.
After Shanderas first public discussion regarding MJ-12 documents, the FBI launched an investigation upon the documents a few years later when documents
were released in a top selling book Above Top Secret. The main concern stemmed from the fact that someone within the US government had leaked the information.
Currently declared by the FBI as a sham, other MJ-12 documents have made appearances and authenticity was a huge issue.
Speculations of forgery and disinformation loomed and people wondered if MJ-12 was simply another
name for the Interplanetary Phenomenon Unit, which is an officially recognized military group.
Later, a secret memo authenticated by the Canadian government emerged and was said to be major evidence regarding MJ-12. Written by Canadian radio engineer,
Wilbert B. Smith, this was dated November 21, 1950 and it was about the recommendation for the Canadian government to establish a formal investigation of
UFOs. Mentioned in the document, was the fact that the U.S. government had done their own investigations via a small group headed by Dr. Vannevar Bush; an
indication of MJ-12s real existence.
Pulled into other alleged conspiracies, another theory came up about the nature of the organization. Word has it that the M in the committees name stands for Majority and not Majestic. In the words of Dan Burisch, MJ-12 was actually working for the
Committee of the Majority, a Masonic organization that establishes alien contact with Earth, and operates towards a New World Order. Supposedly aiming for a
one-world government, MJ-12 was said to be responsible for all scientific operations at Area 51, Roswell and Frenchmans Mountain installations.
Other less exaggerated theories conclude that MJ-12 was formed to cover up alien activities, yet liaise with them to get hold of technology in exchange for testing and knowledge on humans.
MJ-12 has also made major influences in popular culture; the theory was often featured in shows such as The X-Files, Dark Skies and even a Japanese anime
titled Serial Experiments Lain.
